Some days it feels like you’re doing everything you’ve been told to do, and it’s still a battle. Screens, mealtimes, mornings, bedtimes. Underneath it all sits a nagging voice. Am I getting this wrong? Or is something wrong with my child?

If that sounds familiar, you might be looking for a parenting course or some one-to-one support in Epsom. Here we look at what’s available, how to choose, and where to start.

Where can I find parenting support in Epsom? Lily Pad Play Therapy offers The Reframe Session: a 60-minute, one-to-one online call for parents. It’s run by a registered play therapist based in Epsom and Ewell, and costs £60. The session looks at whether what’s being asked of your child is realistic for their age and stage, and gives you practical next steps

Want to talk it through first? Contact Lily Pad Play Therapy or book The Reframe Session.

What is The Reframe Session?

The Reframe Session is 60 minutes to find out if the problem is your child, or the expectation.

Together, we look underneath the two or three things you’re finding trickiest right now. We ask two questions:

  • Is what’s being asked of your child developmentally realistic for their age and stage?
  • Where did the expectation come from? Is it about what your child needs, or the rules and values you’ve picked up along the way?

Often the behaviour isn’t the real problem. The mismatch is.

How does the hour work?

  1. Name it. We identify your two or three biggest trigger points and what they look like at home.
  2. Explore it. We take each one in turn. What’s driving the behaviour? Where might the mismatch be?
  3. Act on it. We finish with practical next steps you can take away and use straight away.

Who is it for?

The Reframe Session is for parents who:

  • are tired of generic advice
  • suspect the rulebook doesn’t fit their child (or them!)
  • want an approach that works for their family and their values

Because it’s online, you can join from anywhere: Epsom, Ewell, the wider Surrey area or further afield.

Is it therapy?

No. The Reframe Session is a parent support session, not therapy.

It’s a space to think through your parenting challenges with a play therapist’s understanding of child development, plus real-life parenting experience. It isn’t a clinical assessment. It isn’t therapeutic work with you or your child.

If you think your child may need therapy, we also offer one-to-one for children aged 3 and over, at our base in Ewell.

Parenting course or one-to-one support: which do I need?

Both have their place.

A group parenting course usually runs over several weeks. It covers general strategies and lets you meet other parents in the same boat. It’s a good fit if you want a broad grounding.

One-to-one support focuses on your child, your home and your trigger points. It’s a good fit if you’ve already tried the general advice and it isn’t landing.

If you’re not sure, start small. One focused hour can tell you a lot about what you need next.

What should I look for in parenting support?

Whoever you choose, it’s worth checking:

  • Child development knowledge. Are expectations grounded in what’s realistic for your child’s age and stage?
  • Fit with your values. Good support works with your family, not against it.
  • Practical outcomes. You should leave with something you can actually use.
  • Clarity on what it is. A good provider is clear about whether they offer advice, coaching or therapy.
